Welcome! It is our
philosophy at WVPTI to help every caller or person requesting information
or assistance. We do not believe in "cases",
"clients", nor formal eligibility requirements. We are here to
help. I was once asked how we close our cases. It was not too difficult to
answer because I simply stated that when someone needs help, we try our
best to provide it. We don't have cases to open or close. If a parent
calls for training, or for a specific answer to a question, we are
committed to finding correct information for that parent. They might not
call back for several years, but when they do, we are there to help again.
No formal paperwork, no eligibility requirements, but user-friendly,
caring, understanding, and committed people ready to help. As a parent of
three daughters, who are now ages 36, ?? (This one won't tell us how old she is),
and 28, I know what would have been helpful for me in the early years of their
education; information on cerebral palsy, assertive technology, educational rights of
families with children with special needs, and problems for siblings; less
bureaucratic paperwork with more time for services; professionals and agencies
available to talk to me when I had time, not when they had time;
sensitivity to issues within my family as a result of having a daughter
with multiple disabilities; family training given to me at convenient
times and places; and professionals in education who respected me as their
equal when planning and deciding my daughters educational program. All of
us at WVPTI are proud to say that we provide services to parents and other
professionals in a manner in which we believe parents and families want
and deserve. We look forward to you contacting us!
